The Girl's Got Secrets by Linda Kage - Review

Here’s the same old “girl posing as a boy” story but with a rock-
n-roll twist.

Remy Curran dreams of one day being in a band, except the group she wants to join refuses to hire a girl drummer. So, she auditions as a guy...and makes the cut.

Becoming “Sticks,” a member of Non-Castrato, isn’t quite what she dreamed it would be, though. She spends most of her time keeping up the subterfuge and learning how to walk, talk, act, and drink like a man.

But what’s even harder to deal with is acting oblivious when the band’s heartthrob lead singer, Asher Hart, treats her like one of the guys and not a woman. She never imagined he’d be so much more than a pretty face with a nice voice. But he’s better than perfect. He’s perfect for her.

When love and lies combine, Remy must keep up the act or lose everything. But who knew lying to reach one dream could prevent you from attaining an even bigger dream?

I absolutely loved this book! I love  Asher... Remy... All the past characters.... Mozart... I just really, really loved this book. It was amazing.

Since we first met Asher I've been hella' curious about him. He's got this mysterious, edgy, artist thing down and it intrigued me - so I have been eagerly anticipating his book. IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! I love Asher. He's just amazing. The things he went through as a child were heartbreaking - and so was his reunion with Pick, his long-lost half-brother. I loved how he finally felt as a part of this amazing 'Forbidden' Family. I loved how Asher was so open-minded, and didn't have a problem when he thought Remy was a gay-man going by the name "Sticks". He was simply amazingly swoon-worthy - I love Asher Hart. I am an official groupie!

I also loved Remy. She was kick-ass. I have a slight girl-crush on her not going to lie. Her name is awesome. I loved how she didn't take any crap - she dished it right back. She duped the lads for a long time as they wouldn't let her audition as a girl. Yes, at first she didn't care, but then as she got closer to Asher as being the man-version of her, "Sticks", she felt guilty as hell. I loved her compassion, her family, the fact that she works at her family Mexican restaurant (Mexican food is my fave, not gonna lie). I just loved everything about Remy.

What I wasn't expecting was that sudden character's death out of nowhere. I was just like "What the...?" It was just so out of field (or I hadn't picked up clues from any of the previous books).

I absolutely love Brandt Gamble. He's this badass, loveable sweetie-pie and I cannot wait for his and Sarah's book now.

Overall, this book is now one of my faves in the entire series.

Author Interview:
1) What book made you love literature and how old were you?

My older sister Sandra was a big reader, and often ignored my pleas to play with her so she could bury her nose in a book.  Then the girl I rode the bus with to school was always too busy reading to talk much to me, so I finally tried this book-reading thing for myself.  The Baby-sitters club is what got me addicted to binge reading in grade school. Then in high school, two of my older sisters were talking about the adult romantic works of Sandra Brown, so I snuck one, and that was it for me. I was a romance junkie from that moment on!

2) Why did you want to become an author?

In first grade, my teacher made us a write a poem.  Mine was about a rainbow and all its colors, but I totally remember her praising it like it was the best piece of literature ever. From that point on, I always thought I could write well.  Took me a few years to realize how much I actually sucked and needed tons more work on my storytelling abilities.  But I still couldn’t give up on it because I loved it so much by then! After my sisters got me addicted to romance books in high school, my stories turned that way, and I finished my first complete novel when I was seventeen.  It was utterly awful, but still...it was a start!

3) What inspired you to write 'Price of a Kiss' the first in your Forbidden Men Stories?

I read the blurb for Abbi Glines’s Just For Now before it was released, and I was instantly intrigued when I heard the main guy was a gigolo. So my brain just went crazy with all the ways I thought this story could play out.  Before long, I had a complete story idea of my own that ended up being not much at all likes hers at all! So I decided to write it!

4) Who is your favourite Forbidden Man and couple - why are they?

My favorite Forbidden Man is Ten, maybe because he’s so open and honest and free.  When I first met him in To Professor with Love, I confess, I wasn’t a fan, but then he really surprised me when he backed Noel up and supported him at the end of the book, and I was like...hmm.  There’s more to this guy that we think, so I started giving him a bit of a background, and wow, he slowly developed over time into this man I just couldn’t help but fall for! Zoey and Quinn are my favorite couple. They’re so alike and connect in a way I just adore.

5) If there's one thing you could change about any of your books, what would it be?

One thing?!  There’s probably millions of things I’d change!  Big and little.  Even years after I press the publish button, I come up with alternate endings and what-if’s for things that would probably change the entire series.  But it ended up the way it did, so I’m kind of stuck with it how it is so I’m going to try not to think about all my millions of regrets I have!
